LJMS Community Music Center

In addition to bringing beautiful music to the San Diego community, the La Jolla Music Society (“LJMS”) has an extensive educational program.  The mission of its educational program is “to deliver the live experience of great music and dance to students throughout San Diego County; nurture the development of young performers; augment the concert-going experience; and cultivate creativity and imagination in patrons of all ages.”  Towards this end, LJMS operates a Community Music Center.  This Community Music Center is targeted towards educating K-12 students from low income families by providing them with hands-on music instruction, musical instruments, and performance opportunities – all free of charge.  Offering free musical education to children from low income families is particularly needed at a time when music programs in public schools are diminishing, if not being eliminated altogether, and school districts are forced to cut their budgets for the 2017-18 school year.  To support the wonderful work of the Community Music Center, the ProtoStar Foundation made a $10,000 grant for the October 2017 to May 2018 program year.
